Why animals should not be tested on article?
Robert Spencer Why animals should not be tested on article?
Animal experiments prolong the suffering of humans waiting for effective cures because the results mislead experimenters and squander precious money, time, and other resources that could be spent on human-relevant research. Animal experiments are so worthless that up to half of them are never even published.
How many animals are killed each year from animal testing?
100 million animals
Each year, more than 100 million animals—including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds—are killed in U.S. laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing.
Why is it bad to test animals?
The harmful use of animals in experiments is not only cruel but also often ineffective. Not only are time, money and animals’ lives being wasted (with a huge amount of suffering), but effective treatments are being mistakenly discarded and harmful treatments are getting through.
Is animal testing good or bad?
Although humans often benefit from successful animal research, the pain, the suffering, and the deaths of animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Therefore, animals should not be used in research or to test the safety of products.
Why is animal testing bad for animals?
Animals are deliberately sickened with toxic chemicals or infected with diseases, live in barren cages and are typically killed when the experiment ends. Humans and animals are very different, so outdated animal experiments often produce results that cannot accurately predict human responses.
How is animal testing bad for the environment?
Environmental Impact Typically, facilities that engage in animal testing not only dispose of animals, but also dispose of potentially dangerous chemicals, food waste, and a variety of supplies used during the testing process. This results in environmental exposure to toxic chemicals, diseases, and other risks.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of animal testing?
The advantage of animal research is that it puts no human lives at risk. Experiments can take place to determine if a product or idea will work as intended. If it does, then it can be tested on humans with a lower risk of a negative outcome. The disadvantage of animal research is that it lessens the value of life.
Is animal testing ineffective?
Animal testing has never really worked. Animal tests proved penicillin deadly, strychnine safe and aspirin dangerous. In fact, 90 percent of medications approved for human use after animal testing later proved ineffective or harmful to humans in clinical trials.
What are disadvantages of animal testing?
What Are the Cons of Animal Research?
- Many of the items that are tested are never used.
- It can be an expensive practice.
- It may not offer valid results.
- Many facilities are exempt from animal welfare laws.
- Animals don’t need to be the “only” method of research.
- Poor research practices invalidate the data obtained.
