How does managed pressure drilling work?
Managed Pressure Drilling relies heavily on the use of a Rotating Control Device (RCD), which is a major component in providing a closed, pressurised system. This allows for a constant bottom-hole pressure to be applied and also ensures much greater control over fluids flowing in and out of the well.

Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) is the effective density that combines current mud density and annular pressure drop. ECD is vital for drilling engineering since it limits how depth of each section to be drilled and leads to losses.
What is mud cap drilling?

What is the difference between rig and barge?
They are floating offshore drilling vessels but it is not self-propelled. The drilling equipment is on the barge. It is generally towed to the location and then has its hull filled with water. A Submersible rig is a larger version of a posted barge and is capable of water depths of 18ft to 70ft.
What is annular pressure?
Annular pressure is the pressure that builds up in the spaces between the drill string and the external casing or borehole wall. Excess pressure can cause problems in a trenchless drilling operation. It is important to measure and monitor this pressure while drilling if possible.
What is ESD in drilling?
The equivalent Static Density (ESD) is an expression of the hydrostatic pressure exerted by a static column of fluid. Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) is the sum of the ESD of the drilling fluid and pressure loss in the annulus due to fluid flow.
What is bottom hole pressure in drilling?
Bottom hole pressure is the pressure at the bottom of the hole, usually measured in pounds per square inch. In a flowing well the bottom hole pressure is equal to the pressure drop in the tubing plus the wellhead pressure. The reservoir or formation pressure at the bottom of the hole is known as bottom hole pressure.
