SOL tests allow the state Board of Education to identify schools that need assistance and support. The assessments also provide an objective means for measuring achievement gaps between student subgroups and for determining the progress of schools, divisions and the state toward closing these gaps.
What SOL tests are required in Virginia?
Virginia SOL tests are given in reading, writing, math, history, and science. Additionally, students in grades 3-8 are required to take Growth Assessments to measure learning growth in reading and mathematics throughout the school year.
