Spring reverb is most often described as “bouncy.” It’s easy enough to imagine that a vibrating coil would certainly have this texture. Remember those tightly coiled doorstops you would flick as a kid? The concept is similar! The bounciness we hear comes from the actual timing between echoes in the tank.
How does a spring reverb tank work?
A spring reverb tank uses a number of springs to reflect the sound and create reverb. Figure 1 shows a spring tank made by MOD with the transducer, pickup and springs labelled. In a method similar to the plate reverb, a transducer changes the electrical sound to a mechanic vibration in a number of transmission springs.
